It’s no surprise that Cardiff is a favourite for winning the title of Capital of Culture in 2023. The Welsh capital’s flourishing culture ranges from dazzling theatre shows and mesmerising operas, to good old fashioned Welsh food.

With atmospheric venues flooded with history, visitors and locals can enjoy a wide variety of environment all year long. And to keep you in the loop, we’ve compiled some of the most exciting events in Cardiff to have been announced for 2017.

Fantastic Mr Fox

In celebration of the centenary of Roald Dahl, one of Cardiff’s most treasured famous faces, the New Theatre will see the author’s classic Fantastic Mr Fox brought to life.

A much loved children’s tale about one cunningly clever fox, this show is one that the whole family can enjoy. Underpinned by Dahl’s incomparable wit and charm, Maria Aberg’s production will be more than just a children’s show, so sit back, relax and let your imagination run wild.

The Woman in Black

Funny Girl

Olivier Award-winning Sheridan Smith stars in this critically acclaimed West End favourite. Telling the story of Fanny Brice and her journey to becoming a Broadway star, Funny Girl is set to captivate the audiences of Cardiff, the hit musical featuring timeless songs Don’t Rain On My Parade and People.

Shown at the Wales Millennium Centre, you can expect goosebumps as you sit back and enjoy this absolute delight.

The Crucible 

When: 23rd May 2017

Arthur Miller’s The Crucible will be transporting Cardiff back to 1692, Salem, Massachusetts. In the small New England town, word of witchcraft travels like wildfire, and its inhabitants can’t be trusted.

Spiralling into the paranoia and hysteria that became the Salem Witch Trials, this is an unmissable political commentary, and timelessly relevant today.

Disney on Ice: 100 Years of Disney Magic

If you’re interesting in veganism but you’re not sure if it’s for you, this is a chance to gain some further insight into a healthy diet with nutritional guidance and recipes. Of course, you’ll also be able to tuck into a wide range of delicious vegan foods from international dishes, and even do some shopping for vegan cosmetics.
