Think sunny yellow daffodils, lush green leeks and lively traditional garments. It can only be one thing: St David’s Day! It’s no wonder that March 1st is known as one of the most colourful days in Wales. Come and celebrate it with us this year at the Exchange Hotel in Cardiff.
St David’s Day
Many have stories about Dewi Sant, and tales of the famous Welsh Saint pass from family to family and generation to generation. Folklore says that he travelled extensively, with some Cymry saying that he made it all the way over to Jerusalem, where he will have become an archbishop.
What is now known as St David’s in south-west Pembrokeshire is where he formed a strict religious community, where he became well known for his devout seriousness in religion and also was said to have an ability to perform miracles.
Have you heard the tale about St David making the ground rise up under his feet while preaching at Llandewi Brefi? In the sixth century, the patron saint of Wales held the Synod of Brefi here and it has borne his name ever since.
Celebrating St David’s Day in Cardiff

The National St David’s Day Parade this year will again see a carnival full of red and yellow sweep across Cardiff city centre, nearly 900 years after St David was made a saint!
